Hamburg - Magdeburg (8 days)
You begin your tour in the Hanseatic city of Hamburg with its numerous tourist features. Your journey leads you through the exquisite north German landscape, which is characterised by the blessing and the curse of the Elbe waters. Idyllic half-timbered villages and giant fruit orchards line your path. Take time to admire the mighty river following its course! Your path leads you through the biosphere reserve "River Landscape of the Elbe Valley" and the picturesque imperial city of Tangermünde to the cathedral city of Magdeburg. Stopping here for a longer period also has its rewards, as the favourite residence of Emperor Otto I looks back on 1,200 years of history. The flat terrain also makes it possible for even the untrained cyclist to easily travel longer distances.
Magdeburg – Bad Schandau (9 days)
The Elbe cycling path is among the most charming and diversified cycling tour routes in Europe. The route leads from the south of Magdeburg into the "River Landscape of the Middle Elbe" sanctuary. You can view the Bauhaus style in the streets of Dessau and stroll along romantic paths, or admire temples and sculptures in the Garden Kingdom of Wörlitz. Martin Luther hammered his 95 theses onto the castle door in Wittenberg, and one is happy to wander through the alleys of the city centre. The journey continues along the Saxon Wine Road to Meißen, which invites a longer stay with its enchanting old town and porcelain factory. A highlight is the Saxon state capital of Dresden with its famous castles, the Semperoper and relaxed lifestyle. Finally, you will be rewarded at the end of your cycling tour with a gorgeous view of the bizarre formations of the Elbe sandstone rock masses.
