Great history, quiet churches (8 days)
Village churches, monasteries, cathedrals, fortresses and city ruins - Saxony-Anhalt is rich with historic monuments from the medieval period. The "Romanesque Road" provides us with insights into this era. Take a journey back in time through the years from 950 to 1250. First follow the Elbe to the north and then cycle through the forests and fields of the Altmark. In Jerichow you will find the Premonstratensian monastery, a central work of Romanesque architecture. You will see Hanseatic cities and numerous churches and monasteries from the medieval period along the route. In Gardelegen your journey into the past ends with a "garden dream".
On the trail of the Ottonians (7 days)
Saxony-Anhalt is the German federal state with the most monuments. It is a core region of German and European history and the cradle of the Reformation. Unique is the wealth of Romanesque buildings and church treasures, and exceptionally high is the number of World Cultural Heritage Sites. From Magdeburg, the state capital of Saxony-Anhalt, the journey heads west to Halberstadt. Two churches characterise the face of the old bishopric: the cathedral and the Liebfrauenkirche (Church of Our Lady). The journey continues to Quedlinburg, where the first German king, Henry I, has his final resting place in the crypt of the Quedlinburg collegiate church of St. Servatius. Then on through the Selke valley to the castle of Falkenstein. Through Groningen, with the monastery church of St. Vitus with its high Romanesque crossing tower, you cycle back to Magdeburg.
